MISC: Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope your thoughts turn to me as you enjoy your turkey, stuffing and all those delicious desserts. I’ll probably be eating some bizarre local food straight from the sea or some weird animal body part. Busa, ipha ang inyong mga panalangin ug nagpasalamat mo! (So count your blessings and be thankful!)
FUNNY STORY: My companion is still learning the language as well and since she is still new in this area, she is still learning Ilonggo. So one day we were tracking (in the heat and knocking on every wooden shack), we came up to this one house and I commented on the structure of it. The guy solemnly responded that his mother just died so he’s now staying in the house temporarily. Then my companion responded, not understanding what he just said, “nindot!” Which means, “cool, awesome!” Surprisingly, we did not get a return appointment there.
LANGUAGE: My ENGLISH is suffering! My spelling, grammar, everything. It’s definitely quite embarrassing since I have a degree in English Education. So be patient and don’t judge. I promise I’m edjukated.
COMPANION: She’s great, everything is cherry 🙂
INSPIRATIONAL: “Above all, never lose faith in your Father in Heaven who loves you more than you can comprehend.” Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
SPIRITUAL: This week has been full of trials but also full of so many miracles. I am reminded of a scripture in 3 Nephi 5:13- “Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of Him to declare His word among His people, that they might have ever lasting life.” This week and all other weeks on the mission, I have suffered and endured–rejection, persecution, illness/sickness, embarrassment, fatigue/exhaustion, extreme heat, violent storms, discouragement, physical discomfort, weariness, anxiety, sleeplessness, stress, frustration, danger, loneliness, disrespect, false charges, intellectual demands, feelings of inadequacy, correction, tribulation, continual adjustment, sorrow and sacrifice. I don’t know ANYONE who would endure and suffer all that and MORE for a message they didnt know to be true. This is the Lord’s work and I could never deny it. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of Him to declare His word among His people, that they might have ever lasting life.
PICS: We helped build a new house, me studying during one of the many blackouts we have every night, the Orot kids, and other pics
As always, I’m always so grateful for all of you! Thank you, thank you. Enjoy your pudding and pies!
