Man, Pdays are like a ticking time bomb. Its funny because we only have an hour to email so when we’re in the computer lab, you can hear everyone pounding on their keyboards trying to type fast.
THANK YOU EVERYONE who sent me letters through DearElder.com. I can’t tell you how much your messages mean to me after very long 16 hour days. It’s exhausting waking up at 630a and not being able to go back to our room until 930 (and then having to be in bed by 1030), so once again thank you so much for your messages, Im sorry if I dont reply directly, but know I get them and know they mean the world to me that you take the time to do that. I can only email on fridays but please keep sending me letters from DearElder.combecause I can get those any day and they are great “pick me ups”.
Snacks are also great to send 😉
Funny story: After we bombed our first lesson with our investigator, my companions and I came back to the classroom disappointed in ourselves not being able to speak fluent Cebuano in just three days (I mean c’mon, reasonable expectation right? haha) Anyway, the elders then went and did their lesson and came back super stoked saying things like “Ah, man, gift of tongues is real! We understood everything she was saying, blah blah…” I just lowered my head and Im not saying I cried, but a thin film of water did cover my eyeballs. And then they said, Sisters, we have a confession… and immediately we knew what they were going to say! I told them they were punks haha. They saw I was disappointed in myself and were like “Awe, Sister Moyes, do you need a handshake?” haha It was funny. But then again, after being cooped up for 16 hours a day, I realized you think the stupidest things are funny, so I apologize if they arent funny to you.
MISC: The Trout Commander has arrived!! (aka Elder Alex Moyes). I see him about 2-3x every day usually at meal times. Its fun having him here. He’s got a great companion. Although Alex has all the girls in my zone completely distracted. They’re all like “Oh my gosh, you’re brother is soo good looking!! I want to write him!”
My hawaiian tan is officially gone after being inside for almost 16 hours every day. One girl in my zone uses tanning lotion and it doesnt look so good. But she is a sweet spirit.
Send me pictures of you all so I can put them at my desk! I miss you guys!
Companions: Love both of my companions. They are great. Although God knew that young 19/20 year old girls would probably be my biggest challenge so He thought he would be funny and send me two. Im trying to be an example for them though and help them recognize the bigger picture in all we do. They still have the “I have to do this” mentality rather than “I want to do this because that’s why I chose to serve a mission”.
Cebuano: This language is so awesome. Can I speak it fluently after just one week? Heck no. But I’m progressing. Nindot jud!! (It’s so cool/I love it)
Spiritual: Watched a devotional by Elder Bednar called the “Character of Christ”. Im sure most of you RM’s have seen it before. Its great. I learned that the character of Christ is when you turn outward and upward rather than focusing on yourself and turning inward. He gave an example of a woman whose daughter was in a car accident with two other girls and was killed, but rather than focusing on her pain (which she had every right to), she turned outward and wanted to make sure the parents of the other two girls were contacted and wanted to do everything she could to help them. Nasayud ko nga tinuod siya (I know that this is true), when we are sad/depressed or going through trials, I know that if we turn outward and upward to our Father in Heaven, we will develop Christlike attributes and He will surround us in His unfailing love.
Inspirational Quote(s) of the week: (First one by my own brother Elder Alex Moyes, sorry to steal his thunder if he writes this as well haha)
“Faith grows when you hear the word. Testimony grows when you do the word.”
“Being humble does not mean thinking less of yourself, it means thinking of yourself less”
naggugma ko kanimo! (I love you all)
