This is Taylor’s first email from the MTC!! she has very little time so I am forwarding her group email out so remember if you reply ha it comes to me not her. She would love to hear from you all, love ya! Leah
Kamusta ka everyone!!
So my Pdays are on Fridays while Im in the MTC so that is when I will be sending you my emails and such. Oh and just so you guys know, you should set up an account onDearElder.com (its free and soo easy) and you can send me little notes and letters on there and they will get them to me daily, whereas if you email me, I can only read it on Fridays. So you just have to type in my name (Taylor Moyes), mission (Philippines Cebu mission or PHI-CEB) and aprox departure date which is I believe now AUG 06. When writing a letter on Dear Elder, make sure you click letter and not email (as I have gotten a few emails written on DearElder) because they send those to me through my email and so I can only read them on fridays rather than get them any day. But you can still send me emails of course!
Just to give you an insight on how my first two days have been here, I’ll just start by telling you my companion’s name:
Sister Lata He Mo’onifolau Saafi
…I know right? I guess the Lord just knew I missed my Polynesians!!!
But she didnt end up showing up anyway haha so they just put me in a trio and I”ll be with Sister Huxtable (from Utah) and Sister Hagedorn (from the Big Apple) during my time here in the MTC. So (Mom) if you can text Rachel Riter and just let her know Sister Huxtable and I did end up being companions after all! They are both great. It’s really fun. But we are late to everything and it’s really hard for me because it’s one of my biggest pet peeves. So I guess i’ll have to work on being a more patient person (no surprise to my parents).
Our district (group) is small, only us three sisters and two elders. One of the elders is Samoan but lives in Australia and I soo love his accent haha. His name is Elder Gali (Nah-lee) but I call him Elder Gnarly sometimes.
Yesterday, all the sisters got called into a meeting in the middle of the day and they put us in the auditorium. There was security by the doors so we thought that President Monson was going to speak to us because he’s been at the MTC all week training the new mission presidents. So when they started the meeting, the guy said that they were going to “alter our universe a little bit”, all of us got really excited. But then he said that they found a bat in 17M and that they needed to relocate all the girls living in that complex to a new one. Guess who was the lucky one to happen to live in 17M? Yeah me. So after unpacking everything the day before, we had to repack everything and they relocated us to 5M. So if you can do the math, it wasn’t a short walk. 17M was the newest building so it was like going from a Marriott to a motel. But still our conditions now will still be better then what i’ll be living in while in the Philippines.
I love learning Cebuano. Its actually not that hard, I just have a lack of vocabulary right now so it can be frustrating at times. But when I don’t respond right, I just say “jok lang, jok lang” which means “just kidding”.
Cebuano is very similar to spanish since the spanish occupied the Philippines for awhile (hence it’s named after King Philip). In fact, all the numbers after 10 in spanish. So Im glad I have a decent knowledge of spanish.
Im sure I could tell you more but I just realized how long this email already is, so I apologize! I also realized its not a very spiritual one either, oops haha. I’ll try better next time.
I’ll try to leave you all with a quote or scripture I like each week. This one has helped me alot the past two days:
“There is not much growth in a ‘comfort zone’ and there is not much comfort in a ‘growth zone’
Love you ALL! Don’t forget to email you favorite missionary 😉 She sure loves hearing from you guys and could use some pick me ups every now and then.
Nasayud ko nga tinuod ang ebanghelyo ug gihigugma kita sa Dios ug nakaila ang Dios kanato. (I know in my heart that the gospel is true and that God knows and loves us)
Aloha until next time! (sorry, pictures arent loading this week)
